Clint Bowyer released a statement saying, "Anyone that knows me, knows that family is everything to me. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Ms. Simmons."

Bowyer, former NASCAR driver and Analyst, is speaking of a deadly car accident where he struck a pedestrian that was in the roadway. Lake Ozark Police Department (in Missouri) crash report states that the accident happened on June 5 near Osage Beach, Missouri. Bowyer was traveling on U.S. 54 when he hit a woman walking on the highway ramp.

"This is a very difficult time for my family and I, please respect our privacy as we move forward," Bowyer said in a statement released to Fox4 in Kansas City.

Bowyer was not intoxicated, based on breathalyzer testing on the scene, or impaired in anyway. There are reports of a substance believed to be methamphetamine near the victims body. She was later identified as 47-year-old Mary Jane Simmons.

Bowyer had just finished up a Fox telecast of the Enjoy Illinois 300 at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois and was traveling to another destination.

Just recently, Bowyer, the two-time Talladega Superspeedway winner, was inducted into the Talladega Walk of Fame.

I'm sure this is something that is very hard to get over and cope with. Our prayers are with Clint and the woman's family.
