Here are some fun facts about the SB Halftime show (MentalFloss.com):

  1. Performers don't get paid. Matter of fact, Dr. Dre put up a couple of million of his own money to create this years performance.
  2. Michael Jackson's 1993 Super Bowl performance was the first time network ratings went up during halftime.
  3. Janet Jackson" was the most searched term, event, and image on the Internet for 2 years following "nipplegate". The FCC fined CBS a record $550,000. It was later appealed and voided.
  4. The most-watched halftime show in history was Madonna in 2012. Only 111 million people watched the game, but 114 million viewers tuned in just for the Queen of Pop. Beyonce was the second most watched.
  5. Most performances used tracked music and lip-synch it on stage. The Weeknd insisted he do the entire thing live.
  6. The entire performance is taped prior to the actual show, in case any major issues happen. Then producers can cut to the pre-recorded show flawlessly. Most of the viewing audience wouldn't even be able to tell.
