Midland kicked off the weekend with the band’s latest studio album, Stages, on Friday (June 12).
The “retro country revivalists” — made up of Mark Wystrach, Jess Carson and Cameron Duddy — delivered a 10-track project that remains true to Midland’s signature sound while “paying homage, leaning in, and having some fun,” states a press release issued Friday morning.
Stages finally arrives after Midland previewed the record during the Country Music Association’s CMA Fest last weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. The Grammy-nominated group played an album pre-release party at Garth Brooks’ Friends in Low Places rooftop bar on Broadway, and during an at-capacity free show on the outdoor Riverfront Stage. The group, hailing from Texas, was one of hundreds of artists to perform at CMA Fest throughout the four-day event, which also featured nightly shows at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium that fans can watch when the concert event airs later this month. Midland also teased Stages during a performance on The Kelly Clarkson Show earlier this week. The trio took the stage with “Shooting Memories With Tequila,” written by Ryan Beaver, Joe Clemmons and Mike Walker, and produced by Trent Willmon. The record also features collaborations with Mackenzie Carpenter and Clint Black, among other highlights.

“From the first time we sang together,” Wystrach recalled in the release, “we had the same influences, the same sense of what mattered. That’s never wavered, only gotten stronger – and you can hear it on these songs.”
Midland marked the trio’s album release day with a Manuel Mancilla-directed music video for “Vaquero,” the last track on the album. It was written by Joseph Patton, Brett Sheroky and Dan Wilson, and produced by Willmon. The video shows “sweeping Southwestern imagery with the portrait of a cowboy (played by Ty Mitchell) who is watching the sun set on his golden years of roping and riding,” the release states. “It’s a striking visual that captures the triumphs and complexities of a life dedicated to land and labor.” Midland will continue tour stops throughout the year at festivals and other events, plus select dates with Grammy-winning artist Kacey Musgraves and a co-headlining run with Black.
