Justin Moore admitted that he hated his duet with Priscilla Block the first time he heard it.

The “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away” artist released the collaboration with Block last month. “You, Me, And Whiskey” is a heartbreak song that sees the two country artist reflect on the days that it was “You, me, and whiskey/ All night long/ Sinkin’ to the bottom of them country songs/ Fire burnin’ hot, ’til the last drop’s gone/ Let’s turn it up/ Turn it up/ ’Til we take that black label buzz too far/ And say them things that stay in the dark/ Ain’t nothin’ as sweet/ Ain’t nothin’ as strong/ As you, me, and whiskey all night long.”

Moore remembered the first time he heard the song title, and even before he listened to the demo, he hated it. He explained in a statement shared by his record label (which noted that “You, Me, And Whiskey” will appear on Moore’s upcoming album in 2023):

“When I first heard the title to ‘You, Me & Whiskey,’ I thought, ‘I hate this song, cause I like the title and I didn’t write it. And I’m only puttin’ songs I wrote on this album.’ And then I heard the song and said, ‘Well, crap. I gotta cut that.’”

“And naw, it’s so well written, and a really good song, and it was nothing like anything we had for the album,” he continued with a laugh. “And we’ve kind of lucked out over the years, where even if we weren’t really looking – you know, we thought, hey, we’re done with the album – these songs just kinda fall in our lap, it seems like. ‘If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,’ that happened, and I could name a handful more. This just kinda felt like another one you go, ‘Oh boy, we’ve gotta record that song. That’s a really good song.’ And again, really different, and kinda added a different dimension to the project. So, I’m glad we got it.”
