Cutting Loose At Footloose Festival

Some folks might not know the popular 1984 movie, "Footloose" was inspired by real-life events in Elmore City, southwest of Pauls Valley.

Elmore City Area Chamber of Commerce President Amy Shebester told KTOK, Saturday's Footloose Festival commemorates the 1980 prom that ended a community-wide ban on dancing:

"After several months, the school board allowed them to have one prom that year, on a contingency basis, to see how it went. Since then, they've had a prom every year."

Shebester said Saturday's Footloose Festival at the Elmore City Community Center includes a pancake breakfast, an arts and crafts show, a car show, and lawnmower races.

She said there will be dancing contests throughout the day, and a 1980s fashion contest.

A huge street dance is set for 5 p.m.
