Listen to Lucy Hale on iHeartRadio

Lucy Hale opens up in the July issue of Flare about her new album and how Taylor Swift made country music “cool.”

The “Pretty Little Liars” actress debuted her first album, Road Between, on Tuesday, just a few days after celebrating her hit show’s 100th episode.

Although Hale won the singing competition show, “American Juniors,” when she was 13, she’s made her career as actress and was fearful of crossing back over to country music.

“It’s very scary being open, being vulnerable, putting yourself out there at the risk of failing,” Hale tells the magazine. “The scariest part is working so, so hard for something and then it not paying off.”

“But that almost doesn’t even matter to me anymore,” she adds. “Making the album was the best experience of my life.”

As for whether or not she’ll be the next Swift, Hale says, “I don’t really keep in touch with many of my ex-boyfriends, but there are some digs in the album for sure.”

Hale notes that Swift “made country quote-unquote ‘cool.’ And she made it OK to talk about your problems. And be vulnerable. And talk s**t about your ex-boyfriend. That’s so fun! Everyone wants to do that.”
